Houston area building, expanding hospitals

Boom is fueled by the need for more and newer healthcare facilities


While the demand for commercial office space is down in Houston, the healthcare sector is keeping construction companies busy, according to an article on the Houston Public Media website.

The hospital sector is booming especially in the suburbs.

Memorial Hermann is building new hospitals in Houston's Pearland and Cypress areas. Methodist and Texas Children’s are building in the Woodlands.

The construction includes more than just acute-care hospitals. Healthcare systems are building a range of facilities, from primary-care clinics to rehab facilities to urgent care centers.

In addition, the Texas Medical Center is updating and modernizing its facilities. Some areas have become functionally obsolescent as medical treatments and technology have advanced.
