Houston children's hospital plans expansion

Texas Children's Hospital will add a $506 million, 19-story patient tower addition

Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston is planning a new $506 million, 19-story patient tower, according to an article on the Healthcare Construction + Operations website.

The new tower will be on top of an existing six-story building adjacent to Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women.

Patient volumes, increased bedside technology and family centered care is straining Texas Children’s current space, the article said. The new Pediatric Tower E will have 129 beds for pediatric and cardiovascular intensive care, and new operating rooms.

It will also be the home of the relocated Texas Children's Heart Center.

The tower structure was designed to reinforce campus continuity and provide distant views from the broad faces of the building.
