Houston's most and least expensive hospitals

Out of 29 hospitals ranked in the area, only seven have costs above the national average

The least-expensive hospital in Houston is Bayshore Medical Center, the most-expensive hospital is Houston Methodist St. John Hospital, and the best value hospital — based on cost and safety — was Memorial Herman Northeast Hospital, according to a new report released by Amino Inc.

Overall, out of 29 hospitals ranked in the area and that are currently operating, only seven have health care costs above the national average, according to an article on the Houston Business Journal website.

Amino indexed hospital healthcare costs based on outpatient fee-for-service procedures. Using this index, the compay determined how much more or less a hospital charges for its services compared the national average.

For example, the median network rate for an ACL surgery in the U.S. is about $10,000. At Memorial Hermann — 41 percent below average — Amino estimates that a ACL surgery will cost about $5,900, while at Houston Methodist — 112 percent above average — that same procedure is estimated to cost $21,200.
