HydraMaster to begin educational series on Facebook about seven of the most common misconceptions about carpet cleaning chemistry

By Healthcare Facilities Today

Whether you have been in the business of cleaning carpets for many years or are brand new, it is not hard to run into strongly stated opinions about carpet cleaning chemistry that may sound correct, but when really investigated turn out to be off a little bit or even flat wrong.  Some misconceptions simply are reinforced by a simple lack of the correct information being available. Others are based upon what was the best information available at the time, but we know better now. Still others are just perpetuated because they too often go unchallenged. In this article, we are going to look at some of the most commonly held misconceptions about carpet cleaning chemistry, and how those misconceptions can often make a cleaning job come across as more difficult than it really is

• Misconception #1 – More does better

• Misconception #2 – Cheaper is better - not understanding dilution rates in calculating the cost of chemicals

• Misconception #3 – You must use “Stain resist compatible” chemistry only, on warranted nylon carpets

• Misconception #4 – Where is pH measured? Concentrated or ready-to-use pH.

• Misconception #5 – No residue, low residue. Good residue, bad residue (Sounds like a Dr. Seuss Book)

•  Misconception #6 – Acid rinsing or fresh water rinsing leaves the least amount of residue in carpet after cleaning

• Misconception #7 – Wool carpet is delicate and requires extreme caution to clean

Each session in this series will focus on the misconception, show how it could lead to some confusion, and then provide a simpler solution that can make carpet cleaning easier and more effective. While the series is geared toward the cleaning contractor, anyone involved in carpet cleaning will find applicable lessons to reduce the level of complexity necessary to do a better job. The series will start on November 15th, 2013, posted on the HydraMaster Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cleansolutions. The entire series will be collected and made available on-going at the company blog site – http://thecleansceneblog.wordpress.com. The series is authored by Doyle Bloss, who has been involved in chemical formulating in the carpet cleaning industry for over 30 years, and presently serves as the Chemical Brand Manager for HydraMaster and US Products.
