Collaboration between infection preventionists (IPs) and environmental services (EVS) teams is key according to an article on the Infection Control Today website.
There should be some give-and-take between the teams when it comes to developing best practices for cleaning healthcare facilities.
For instance, the COVID pandemic is brining them teams together to discuss maintaining supplies of cleaning and disinfecting.
Plus, although EVS is in charge of the cleaning process, IPs work with them to make sure that process is followed.
As the virus spreads, healthcare facilities are updating protocols that were usually intended for influenza outbreaks or less common events like Ebola, according to an earlier Infection Control Today.
