Imperial Beach Community Clinic Caught Up in Email Cyberattack

The unusual activity they detected occurred between February 4, 2025, to May 2, 2025.

Imperial Beach Community Clinic (IB Clinic) is providing notice of an event that may affect the privacy of certain individuals’ information.   

On or about April 15, 2025, IB Clinic became aware of unusual activity in its email environment. Upon becoming aware, IB Clinic promptly began an investigation into the scope and nature of the suspicious activity and retained legal counsel and third-party forensic specialists to investigate the unusual activity. That investigation revealed that certain information may have been copied by an unauthorized individual as part of the event. This activity occurred between February 4, 2025, to May 2, 2025. IB Clinic then began a comprehensive review of the data set to determine what sensitive and/or personal information was impacted and to whom it related. On December 30, 2025, IB Clinic finished its review of the impacted information.  

The information potentially impacted by this event vary by individual and not all data elements were impacted for every individual, but may include name, age, appointment date, claim number, date of birth, encounter ID number, gender, insurance information, insurance name, patient ID number, procedure, provider, service date, visit type.  

Upon learning of this event, IB Clinic moved quickly to investigate and respond to the event and notify potentially affected individuals. They are reviewing and enhancing existing policies and procedures to reduce the likelihood of a similar future event. They are also notifying applicable regulators.
