A new ICU with massage beds, negative pressure rooms is part of a $40 million renovation to St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, Ind., according to an article on the NWI.com website.
The unit also has a call system that lets patients communicate directly with nurses.
The new ICU was built atop the old ICU, which had eight fewer beds and will be transformed into the hospital's new surgical unit. Ground was broken on the 115,000-square-foot addition last May.
A unit has critical-care beds that can rotate patients from side to side as well as sit and stand them up. The ICU rooms also will have mechanical lifts able to hold up to 600 pounds.
