Interactive calculator quantifies cost savings from using mobile facilities dashboards

Winning budget approval for technology is still a challenge when senior management teams in healthcare are often juggling multiple, and sometimes competing, priorities

Healthcare facility managers, even those with deep insight into their operations, may struggle to select the technology that can help drive efficiency and lower costs.

Yet, for those that do identify technology — such as a mobile facilities dashboard — winning budget approval is still a challenge. After all, senior management teams in healthcare are often juggling multiple, and sometimes competing, priorities.

That’s why ARC developed an interactive value calculator.

With a calculator, healthcare FMs can quantify and communicate the financial impact of incorporating mobile facilities dashboards into their operation. From warranty management to unexpected pipe burst emergencies, FMs need better insight into their day-to-day operations, as well as a higher-level overview.

Value calculator validates financial impact of mobile solutions

Savings estimates are based on industry-averages established with data from building management surveys and trade group research, including a survey of 179 Facilities Directors and Managers in August 2017 by AIIM in partnership with ARC.

Those survey results showed that, on average:

• Facility teams spend up to one hour per day searching for building documents

• Nearly 40% of facilities managers are less than eight years away from retiring

• $81,000 is spent annually on repairs for equipment still under warranty

• The compounded cost of a catastrophe is $506,000

The value calculator offers two views into potential savings. First, there’s a snapshot based on three points of data. The more robust report, however, is generated with user-entered criteria such as number of buildings managed, staff size, hours worked, retiring workers, and more.

“The ARC value calculator helps FMs explain the value of mobile solutions to secure budget approval,” said Brian Bailard, EVP of ARC Technology Solutions, a unit of ARC Document Solutions.

ARC Mobile Facilities Dashboards are designed to reduce costs and mitigate the risk of catastrophes. The dashboards also eliminate the costs of underutilized warranties and overtime while facilitating succession planning, improving customer service and accelerating employee on-boarding.

Jake Young is the National Director of Facilities Technology for ARC.
