Inventory management in healthcare facilities is especially critical, according to an article on the Facility Care website.

Excess inventory or items that will go bad, expire or never be needed are a waste of hospital funds.

In a vendor-managed inventory (VMI) system, the vendor or distributor is responsible for ensuring that a facility always has adequate supplies of materials. 

VMI depends on developing trust with the supplier. A supplier’s rep will meet to discuss the items that will be supplied, the safety stock levels and the frequency of deliveries.
