IoT Reshapes Healthcare By Cutting Costs, Increasing Efficiency

Healthcare is a prime candidate for IoT solutions

Healthcare has a lot of technology that can benefit from the Internet of Things, from simple thermometers and blood pressure monitors to cardiac monitors. They may  lack the Internet portion though, according to an article on the MedTech Intelligence website.

But, IoT configurations can reduce operating costs and increasing efficiency.

The market for healthcare industry IoT has been expanding in the past 10 years, following  the 2009 Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, designed to stimulate adoption of electronic health records and allied technologies.

However, most IoT applications at this time are highly focused point solutions involving such mundane tasks as SMS appointment reminders, mobile patient check-in, virtual waiting rooms, and video consultations. In other words, many of the healthcare applications of IoT technology don’t involve medicine at all.

The Internet of Things (IoT) can make healthcare facility security smarter and more efficient than ever before, according to a Campus Safety article

Emerging IoT technology and Programmable Logic Devices (PLDs) are showing promise to help healthcare facilities minimize threats and address emergency situations.
