Kansas Hospital selects Spectra254 UVC light disinfection solutions to eliminate HAIi's on surfaces

Spectra254, a provider of UVC light disinfection solutions, announced today that Kansas-based general acute-care medical facility Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital has chosen the Spectra 1000 Series to strengthen its existing disinfection protocols to prevent the spread of Hospital Acquired Infections among patients and employees.

Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital will use Spectra 1000 Series devices in its patient, operating, emergency and isolation rooms, as well as to disinfect utility rooms. The Spectra 1000 Series devices will be used in combination with manual chemical cleaning.

"Spectra 1000 Series devices ensure that our disinfection rate is as close to 100 percent as possible,” said Cole Gilliland, the hospital’s housekeeping supervisor. “By following chemical cleaning with UVC light disinfection, we are able to kill pathogens on surfaces where it may be hard to reach with chemical cleaners, including floors, walls and ceilings.”

Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, located in El Dorado, Kan., houses 74 beds, inpatient services, diagnostic imaging and an accredited chest pain clinic, in total serving more than 14,000 patients each year. It also operates an immediate care clinic in neighboring Augusta, Kan., and provides services to patients in surrounding counties.

Janet Frey, the hospital’s director of infection prevention, noted that the Spectra 1000 Series devices are highly valued in isolation rooms in particular, since those rooms demand added scrutiny and increased infection prevention measures.

“Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital is a facility that makes patient safety a priority. Their commitment to incorporating new technologies and advanced procedures is an example for many to follow, “said Sanford Green, Spectra254’s senior executive. “Our Spectra 1000 series systems are in continuous use throughout the hospital. We continue to work with hospital staff on incorporating other advanced UVC technologies as well.”

Nationally, the Centers for Disease Control reports that an average of one out of every 25 hospital patients contracts a healthcare-associated infection.

Spectra254’s solutions have been thoroughly tested and evaluated by independent laboratories and found to be 99.98 percent effective in eliminating surface and air pathogens, including MRSA, CRE, C. difficile spores and other bacteria and superbugs. A recent study also proves the system is 99.99 percent effective at killing an Ebola surrogate on surfaces at a distance of up to 15 feet.

Spectra254 UVC light decontamination systems use high-intensity UVC light to eliminate pathogens on surfaces. The company offers a practical approach to UVC disinfection in healthcare and related markets, developing multiple systems that are independently tested, easy to use and offer an expanded set of features, functions and benefits normally reserved for systems at a much higher price.

Spectra254’s systems are assembled by an ISO 9001:2008 + AS9100C certified company located in Connecticut, USA.
