A bacteria has been confirmed in the water system at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., according to an article on the KSN.com website.
The lab results of one patient at the VA medical center prompted officials to take a closer examination of the hospital’s water system, later revealing positive results for Legionella bacteria.
The facility has since installed filters in the showers in the long-term care and in-patient units.
In addition to installing the filters, the water system at the medical center must be treated, according to hospital officials. This can be done by heating the hot water systems to a temperature that will kill the organism, then, proceed with a chemical treatment.
