Kimberly-Clark Professional introduces new wiping solutions for healthcare

Kimberly-Clark Professional announces the introduction of a new wiping solution that improves the effectiveness of cleaning and disinfecting within healthcare environments.

To provide healthcare professionals with improved cleaning solutions, Kimberly-Clark Professional developed the new Kimtech WetTask Dual-Performance Wiping System. As the latest addition to the WetTask System line, this closed-bucket solution uses Kimtech WetTask Wipers that are specially designed to be used with your preferred chemical solution in order to maintain disinfectant concentration. This system delivers target concentration of disinfectant to reach the surface—reducing the risk of cross contamination that can occur with laundered towels and microfiber cloths.

The Kimtech WetTask Dual-Performance Wiping System offers enhanced scrubbing versatility with two different sides for cleaning and disinfecting. The innovative wipers feature a white side for regular cleaning and a purple, textured side ideally suited for hard to remove substances when extra scrubbing power is needed.

"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), proper cleaning and disinfecting practices in healthcare environments are critical to reducing the spread of bacteria that can cause healthcare-associated infections (HAIs)," says Azeema Ameerally, healthcare product manager for Kimberly-Clark Professional. "The physical act of scrubbing removes a large number of microorganisms and visible soils from surfaces. After cleaning, attention can be turned to disinfecting."

These practices are particularly important in healthcare settings where patients experiencing weakened immune systems may have more difficulty fighting off germs. A recent study published in the American Journal of Infection Control, "Microbial contamination of hospital reusable cleaning towels," found that 93 percent of the tested laundered cloths and microfiber towels used to clean hospital rooms contain viable bacteria that could result in HAIs. The study was conducted by Charles Gerba, PhD, and colleagues from the University of Arizona, with support from Kimberly-Clark.

"The combination of having the scrubbing power to remove tough, dried-on substances, while also maintaining the recommended concentration level of disinfectants makes Kimtech WetTask Dual-Performance Wipers an ideal solution for enhancing the infection control practices of healthcare environments," says Ameerally.
