Los Angeles VA renovates former mental health hospital

Historic building will house chronically homeless veterans

The Los Angeles Veteran's Administration has renovated a former mental health hospital to house chronically homeless veterans, according to an article on the Healthcare Construction + Operations

The 1945 Mission Revival-style building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has 55 residential units — 45 single occupancy and 10 dual occupancy.

The facility features an open entry space, large multipurpose rooms, a dedicated women’s wing and serenity garden, administrative offices and classrooms, a training kitchen, specialized bariatric units and public spaces for social gatherings, the article said.

Veterans will receive on-site training and services to help them learn to live on their own.
