Maintenance is a reliability and compliance issue

Power management strategy comes in where both issues meet

Behind power system maintenance best practices are a set of regulatory issues and industry guidelines, according to an article on the Health Facilities Maintenance website. Where maintenance and compliance meet can be a framework for a power management strategy.

Information from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) all offer key guidelines and documents for a maintenance program.

Facilities managers should be careful not to rely on one source of information when creating a maintenance program, the article said, and should conduct their own vulnerability analyses or risk assessments.

Most electrical power equipment manufacturers publish recommended maintenance activities and intervals for their equipment and must be used if an alternate equipment management program is not permitted for some electrical power equipment.
