A well-considered medical equipment budget is one of the keys to a successful healthcare project, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

The sophistication of the equipment needed, the accuracy of cost estimates, the needs of stakeholders and the frequency of change orders can all make a difference.

Basing a budget on a space program rather than square footage is considered best practice. But the budget can still fluctuate based on a number of variables.

Relocation costs, equipment upgrades, leases, transition rentals, information technology (IT) integrations and ancillary expenses (i.e., electronic health record interoperability)  all can play a role.

The project delivery method and construction schedule can also impact the budget.
