Memphis, Nashville facilities take patients airlifted from Harvey

Federal agencies placed a National Disaster Medical System on alert


An emergency medical response team from the Memphis VA Medical Center led a variety of agencies in readying Tennessee Air National Guard 164th Airlift Wing facilities at Memphis International Airport for patients airlifted from Houston, according to an article on the Commercial Appeal website.

Patients were then sent to Memphis-area hospitals including Baptist Memorial Health Care, the Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare systems, St. Francis Hospital-Bartlett,Delta Medical Center or the VA.

Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers acting as federal coordinating centers in Nashville, Oklahoma City, Birmingham, Little Rock and Jackson also had been placed on alert.

The alert is a first step that would be followed by "activation" if patients are transported by military aircraft.
