Mercy Health Breaks Ground on New $271 Million Medical Center

On September 20, 2016, Mercy Health Muskegon broke ground on their new $271 million, nine-story medical center.

Once completed, the new 267-bed hospital will house all medical and surgical services including, cardiovascular, orthopedics, labor and delivery and trauma. The combined campus services will eliminate confusion for patients and their families as well as duplication of work for staff members. Additionally, the system’s care model will be transformed through a new 74-bed Universal Care Unit. The Universal Care Unit is a patient-centered care model that provides private rooms for outpatients not requiring a hospital stay but who may need care for a few hours.

Other features of the new medical center include private inpatient rooms, a new Emergency Department, state-of-the-art surgical and procedural areas, the renovation of the existing Mercy Campus, and a host of modern amenities and technologies.

Mercy Health Muskegon Board Chairperson Scott Musselman said, "This project has been about creating the right space, designed around the way health care should be delivered today, and into the future, with the flexibility to easily adapt as needs evolve and grow. Our vision has been for a transformational medical center that will serve the needs of our community for the next 100 years."

CBRE Healthcare is providing Owner’s Representative services for the new medical center, including CON support, preconstruction, on-site project management, master budget and schedule development, project delivery team selection assistance, contract negotiation, project cost and schedule management, and project delivery team coordination.

“We are honored to partner with Mercy Health on such a transformational project,” stated Dan Waters, Senior Project Manager for CBRE Healthcare. “Having the opportunity to be a part of such a supportive community throughout this process has been priceless. All of the philanthropic goals and events have sparked such excitement for the project that will carry over to opening day. We look forward to partnering in delivering a state-of-the-art facility to the Muskegon community for decades to come.”

Mercy Health Muskegon anticipates opening the new medical center in June of 2019.
