A Norwalk, Conn., senior facility held a mock disaster drill to test policies and procedures in case of a natural disaster, according to an article on The Hour website.
The Aurora Senior Living mock disaster featured a tornado strike that required evacuation of residents from other nursing homes in the area.
The drill consisted of an exchange of paperwork, medical evaluation and contacting the families of those involved.
According to Connecticut Mutual Aid, which provides plans for evacuation, the Aurora plan was used in three disasters in New England last year and coordinated and managed 520 healthcare facilities in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
This plan is supported by the Connecticut Department of Public Health, Facility License & Investigation Section, LeadingAge Connecticut and the Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilities.
