N.H. healthcare facility boosts security after shooting

The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Claremont, N.H., upgraded its security after a man shot and killed his mother in the intensive care unit in September, according to an article on the Campus Safety website.

The improvements include five additional full-time security positions and bulletproof vests for security officers.

The changes were made to to increase the visibility of security personnel, upgrade existing security technologies and better prepare employees for emergencies.

Following a consultation with Lebanon Police and hospital employees and a peer-reviewed study with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, both of which have experienced shootings, DHMC’s security team drafted policy changes and planned equipment upgrades, the article said.
