N.H. hospital embraces local beef for food service

Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, is partnering with a nearby farm to bring local beef to its food service offerings

Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, N.H. is partnering with a nearby farm to bring local beef to its food service offerings, according to an article on the Fosters.com website.

Huggins, a non-profit, critical access, community hospital is the first hospital to be part of the Local Food Promotion Program (LFPP). Federal funds for this project were awarded under the Local Food Promotion Program of the Agricultural Marketing Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The goal of the program is to support a healthy diet with locally raised, high quality meat, free from added hormones or systematic antibiotics while supporting local farmers.

“As a healthcare agency, the hospital recognizes the importance of eating well and understands that our beef is humanely raised and antibiotic free, offering a healthy option that improves quality of life,” said farm owner Carole Soule, whose farm acts as the aggregator of multiple producers of meat to be sold to the hospital.
