The green expansion of St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, N.Y., includes a co-gen plant that will produce 90 percent of facility's daily electricity needs, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.
The 500,000-square-foot project, one of the largest sustainable health care projects in Upstate New York, is expected to save the hospital $1 million a year.
The project also includes construction of a new surgical tower and an emergency services building.
Along with the majority of the tower's electricity, the plant will produce the steam it uses for daily operations.
