N.J. hospital reduces energy output by 20 percent

Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank lowered energy costs by more than $900,000

The Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, N.J., has completed an energy conservation plan that has reduced its annual energy output by more than 20 percent, improved the air quality within the hospital, ensured the longevity and reliability of its equipment and lowered energy costs by more than $900,000, according to an article on The Hub website.

Through New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program, Riverview Medical Center enrolled in the Pay for Performance plan, which grants financial incentives to large buildings for reducing their energy consumption by 20 percent.

Modernizing the building’s automation system was one of the most important measures, the article said. An upgraded system now analyzes and adjusts the operating conditions of the hospital in real time to ensure reliability, comfort and operational savings. The hospital also upgraded boilers, chillers and ventilation systems.

This new system improved the quality of the air as well as temperature control, giving patients and guests of the hospital a higher level of comfort throughout their stay, the article said.
