Nation's First Comprehensive Burn Center Celebrates its 50th Anniversary as Part of Burn Awareness Week Awareness

The Grossman Burn Center (GBC) is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this month. Founded by internationally-renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Grossman, the center was the first of its kind to prioritize burn treatment and pioneer procedures that have since become standard practice within the medical field.  Hundreds of thousands of patients from all over the world have benefited from the Center’s specialties in industry-leading reconstructive plastic surgery and post-surgery psychiatric rehabilitation care. The Centers are known for their success helping patients return as closely as possible to their pre-injury condition both cosmetically and emotionally.

The Burn Center made national headlines when it first introduced the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to speed up the healing process of burn injuries. The Center is now head by Richard's son, Dr. Peter Grossman, who is currently developing another cutting-edge technology - a medical App that will help diagnose the degree of burn injuries in the field for first responders, military and medical professions.  Additionally, Dr. Grossman is also authoring an upcoming book that will dispel many common plastic surgery myths (titled Beauty & the B.S.).

The Grossman Burn Centers have treated an extensive list of high-profile celebrities including Richard Pryor, Sam Elliott, Francis Fisher, Travis Barker, Eric LeMarque (inspiration for the new Josh Hartnett movie “6 Below”) and Kechi Okwuchi from “America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” amongst many others. The Center is also the preferred burn treatment resource for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
