The Southeast Nebraska Healthcare Coalition sponsored a winter-weather mass-casualty incident exercise at the Jefferson Community Health Center recently, according to an article on the Beatrice Daily Sun website. The scenario involved a bus-versus-SUV accident.
The exercise gave hospital and ambulance staff the chance to adjust and adapt to a chaotic situation.
“You adapt as you need to, in the case of an emergency. What these drills do is help figure out some of those things. The biggest issue we probably have is if phones are down. We’ve got radios, but people aren’t all that familiar with them,” Lana Likens, JCHC public relations director, said in the article.
“In having an opportunity to drill, you have an opportunity to stop and think a little longer than you would in the case of a real emergency,” she said.
