East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, La., simulated a scenario involving a gunman roaming the facility to test the response of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, according to an article on The Times-Picayune website.
“This drill will significantly assist our response efforts and plans in the event of a real life emergency and will allow coordinating government agencies to better protect the citizens in our region,” according to Keith Darcey, spokesman for the hospital.
Participating agencies included East Jefferson’s EMS department, the Jefferson Parish Sherriff’s Office, the East Bank Consolidated Fire Department, Jefferson Parish Emergency Management, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, State Police, Kenner city officials, the Kenner Police Department and the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office.
