New year's hot topics involve managing and mitigating risks

Healthcare facilities professionals have a range of physical environment issues to watch

Healthcare facilities professionals have a range of physical environment issues to watch in the new year, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

The hottest topics are often the ones most likely to cause problems during accreditation surveys and often involve human behavior, such as leaving a door open to a pressure-controlled or humidity-controlled area too long.

Risks also include life- and fire-safety issues such as degraded means of egress, fire safety building features, fire barriers, smoke barriers, fire-rated doors or problems with fire safety equipment.

The high percentage fire safety citations could to be due to the volume of work required to manage inventory changes along with all of the required ITM records, the article said.
