The influence of nurses on healthcare design was recently discussed at a gathering of members of the Nursing Institute for Healthcare Design (NIHD) in Lancaster, Pa., according to an article on the Medical Construction & Design website.
According to the NIHD, nurses are one of the most underutilized resources in the planning and design of clinical environments.
The group also discussed challenges in healthcare design.
“Economics is one of the most influential factors in the long run that influences design decisions. Other important considerations in the specification of different types of surfaces include safety, noise, durability and aesthetics,” Joyce Durham, NIHD president elect, said in the article.
