The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration, in partnership with Clark Construction Group, other construction companies and labor organizations, will join together in Washington on Monday, May 1, to mark the 2017 National Fall Prevention Safety Stand-Down.

The National Fall Prevention Safety Stand-Down is intended to raise national awareness of fall hazards and help reduce workplace fatalities and injuries. Fatalities caused by falls from elevation are a leading cause of death for construction workers, accounting for 350 of the 937 industry fatalities in 2015.

From May 8-12, employers at work sites nationwide are encouraged to pause work – or “stand-down” – for topical discussions, safety demonstrations and training in hazard recognition and fall prevention. 

The kick-off event will be held at The Wharf Project, a large-scale, multi-use redevelopment project under construction on the district’s waterfront. Dean McKenzie, director of OSHA’s Directorate of Construction; and Robert Moser, president and CEO of Clark Construction Group will be among those scheduled to deliver remarks.
