Ontario hospital receives funding for equipment improvements

Funds will help enhance services in long-term rehabilitation and complex continuing care

Lakeridge Health Whitby in Ontario, Canada, will put $200,000 toward new and updated exam tables and sleeper chairs and rehabilitation equipment, according to an article on the Durham Region website.

Acquisitions will also include a Snoezelen cart, a mobile station for bed-bound patients that encourages sensory exploration and relaxation.

“It’s the equipment that makes the difference in maintaining the independence of our seniors so anything that we can do to assist them to get in and out of bed and create as much independence drives their quality of life,” said Lisa Shiozaki, chief operating officer and chief nursing executive of Lakeridge Health.

Whitby hospital normally has a capacity for 80 patients, but 14 seniors displaced following the fire at Fairview Lodge in October are currently being accommodated there on a temporary basis.
