Oregon Health & Science University leaders are working to transform a system with 15,000 employees and nearly a million annual patient visits to better welcome transgender patients, according to an article on the Oregon Live website.

Changes for transgender patients are happening slowly in healthcare facilities, where privacy concerns have stunted the progress. 

Access to bathrooms is of particular concern for the transgender community. Many feel safer in single-stall, gender-neutral facilities, but OHSU has only a few in its busiest clinics.

OHSU mapped them and changed the signs to better advertise the unisex stalls as transgender-friendly.
