Orlando Hospitals Remind Public That Medical Facilities Are Not Hurricane Shelters

Facilities stress the point this year because of social distancing needs


Every hurricane season, Florida hospitals try to spread the word that residents should not try to use the facilities as shelter, according to an article on the Orlando Sentinel website.

Social distancing measures  mean this year’s message is even more important.

This year, the hospitals must consider how to arrange socially-distant sleeping and rest areas for employees.

Hospitals routinely stockpile supplies and water in case of a power outage, but this year items like paper towels, toilet paper and gloves have been harder to get. 

Hurricane planning has also changes, as most of it has to be done virtually, according to an article. from the Beaumont Enterprise.  Plans must be even more flexible as information about coronavirus evolves quickly.
