Pa. hospital launches senior-specific ER program

St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa., has launched a new emergency department program to provide care to patients age 75 and older, according to an article on the Bucks County Courier Times website.

The department was designed with subdued lighting, anti-slip flooring, handrails to assist with balance and lower beds.

There also are volunteers with special carts stocked with comfort items for seniors.

The Senior Emergency Room also involves a risk assessment to help the treatment team determine next steps like physical therapy consults for fall prevention, pharmacy consults for medication assessment and other comprehensive geriatric services.
