Hospital personnel should observe standard, contact and airborne precautions


The plan plan for screening for MERS-CoV, Ebola, measles, or any other infectious disease and update it with the latest information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the coronavirus, according to an article on the Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare website.

The CDC says patients with fever and acute respiratory illness should be asked for a detailed travel history and anyone under investigation should also be provided a mask and be isolated.

Hospital personnel should observe standard, contact and airborne precautions and use eye protection such as goggles or a face shield.

Have stockpiles or protective equipment and supplies, the article suggests. Healthcare facilities will likely use the existing stockpiles amassed during previous events.
