A phased healthcare facility renovation needs to be precisely timed because the work site is connected to the rest of the building’s systems, according to a Healthcare Design article. The process is more complicated than simply gutting a building, because phasing requires meticulous timing by an entire team of professionals. For the Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn., the renovation of a 12,000-square-foot unit and an addition of 4,500 square feet onto the roof of an adjacent ambulatory care facility, the project needed buy-in from the staffers who would keep the unit operating.
The completed tenant improvement includes approximately 100,000 square feet of improved space across two buildings and represents an investment of $65 million.
