Predictive maintenance techniques can determine the condition of assets and predict when maintenance should be performed thus reducing the chances of future problems, according to an article on the Medical Construction & Design website.

Advantages include:

• Increased safety

• Reduced equipment and labor costs 

• Reduced productivity loss 

Predictive maintenance won't necessarily deliver savings to the bottom line, the article said. Predicting a failure does not reduce the need for maintenance. It uses different methods to identify failures early enough to be proactive.
