Quebec superhospital plagued by sewage floods

SNC-Lavalin and the McGill University Health Centre working to fix recurring daily backups

Quebec's SNC-Lavalin and the McGill University Health Centre is being plagued by recurring daily backups, according to an article in the Montreal Gazette.

Facilities at the Glen site were hit with six more floods the same day and a sewage pipe burst in the Breast Centre of the $1.3-billion superhospital in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, flooding several rooms.

MUHC housekeeping and technical services staff are raising safety concerns about the backups. Infection-control inspectors have advised housekeeping to use hydrogen peroxide to disinfect areas flooded with sewage water. Among the areas that have been flooded are patient rooms on the children’s and adult sides of the superhospital as well as clinics.
