Real time location systems in healthcare

A number of drivers point to its usefulness for providers and patients


Real time location systems (RTLS) technology has come a long way in its potential for healthcare. according to an article on the mHealth Intelligence website.

The technology has become a must-have for handling facility traffic patterns, asset management and security.

RTLS systems are known more for the analytics platform than the actual tag. Data collected by the tags — location, speed, stationary time, temperature — is collected and processed by various departments.

For instance, at Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, N.J., nurses dealing with combative patients can signal a Code Gray by tapping their RTLS-enabled badge, which locates them for security.
