Redesigning the sterile reprocessing room

Minnesota hospital makes department more staff-friendly

The central sterile department at Minnesota's St. Cloud Hospital has been redesigned to be high-tech and staff-friendly, according to an article on the Outpatient Surgery website.

Improving the design of the sterile processing department enhances a facility's overall performance, according to the article.

There should be segregation between soiled, clean and sterile items in order to cut down on the human factor in process breakdown.

The first section of the St. Cloud department is the 4,000-square-foot decontamination area. Everything is within arm's reach, so the reprocessing attendants don't have to move from their spots.
