Resiliency a growing concern in healthcare design

Power outages have been the most common resiliency-related events in the past three years


Resilient design and security strategies are two of the hottest topics in healthcare facility design, according to an article on the HCPro website.

Data from the annual Hospital Construction Survey conducted by Health Facilities Management found that 89 percent of the 274 respondents said that resiliency is key when designing a new facility.

According to the survey, power outages have been the most common (66 percent) resiliency-related events in the past three years. The respondents identified power outages, fires, and winter storms as priorities in building for resiliency.

After that, were winter storms (47 percent), hurricanes (19 percent), and flooding (19 percent).The respondents most often identified power outages, fires, and winter storms as priorities in building for resiliency.
