Rural hospitals step up during hurricane

Two hospitals provided care within damaged facilities

Georgia's LifeBrite Community Hospital of Early and Miller County Hospital provided care within damaged their damaged facilities during Hurricane Michael, according to an article on the Rome-News Tribune website.

LifeBrite had electrical issues and was isolated because of baf roads and Miller County lost water for 18 hours when the city of Colquitt’s water supply went down.

The situations reflect how important rural health care is to small communities when a disaster strikes, the article said.

Besides the spotty air conditioning, sanitary conditions deteriorated, but “there was no effect on medical care,’’ Miller CEO Robin Rau sad. “It was a phenomenal effort by our staff.”
