Security increased after nurse is wounded in shooting at Los Angeles clinic

Facility on MLK Jr. Community Hospital campus will install metal detectors

A mental health urgent-care facility in Los Angeles is installing medical detectors after a nurse practitioner was wounded in a shooting, according to an article on the Becker's Hospital Review website.

The facility did not have metal detectors because the agency wanted it to feel “warm and homelike,”  according to an article on the Los Angeles Daily News website. The facility's security guards do not have weapons.

The facility is a private business on a campus shared with the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital.

The shooting happened during the intake process. The victim pushed a panic button and was shot during a scuffle, the article said.
