Shannon Health System to Acquire Scenic Mountain Medical Center

The signing of the asset purchase agreement begins the asset purchase closing process, which is expected to be completed in the coming months.

Shannon Health System (Shannon) announced it has signed an asset purchase agreement to acquire substantially all assets of Scenic Mountain Medical Center (SMMC) in Big Spring, Texas, from subsidiaries of Quorum Health.

When finalized, SMMC will become part of Shannon’s regional system, which includes three hospitals, 25 clinic locations and more than 400 providers across West Texas.

In 2024, Shannon purchased the West Texas Medical Plaza, where Scenic Mountain Medical Group is located. The expansion will include increasing primary care space for additional providers and expanding specialty care spaces so patients can have access to cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, orthopedics, general surgery, neurosurgery, nephrology, allergy and oncology care. Additional plans at the clinic include remodeling urology and other key departments, creating a new urgent care clinic for walk-in care, and installing imaging and mammography equipment to expand diagnostic capabilities.

In the meantime, nothing will change for patients or employees of either organization. During the approval process, Shannon Health System and Scenic Mountain Medical Center will continue to operate as separate and independent organizations.

The signing of the asset purchase agreement begins the asset purchase closing process, which is expected to be completed in the coming months.
