A recent study found a 57 percent hand-hygiene compliance rate among healthcare facility staff members when monitored by infection prevention nurses, according to an article on the Becker's Infection Control & Clinical Quality website.

Additional strategies for increasing hand hygiene include:

• Publishing the hand-washing rates for each unit of the facility

• Putting up posters describing hand hygiene as a team effort 

• Acknowledging staff members who make compliance a priority
