Switching From Phone To Video Telehealth

The Institute for Family Health was conducting 1,800 telehealth visits per day — about two-thirds of which were via telephone

In the spring, the Institute for Family Health in New York began transitioning our services to telehealth whenever possible, although these services are limited by its current equipment and software capabilities, according to an article on the Healthcare IT News website.

The Institute was conducting 1,800 telehealth visits per day — about two-thirds of which  were via telephone.

The institute applied to the FCC for funding to implement needed information services and internet-connected devices/equipment in order to serve patients through secure telehealth .

With resources provided by the FCC COVID-19 Telehealth Program,  the institute will:

  • Install information services and devices/equipment
  • Configure an additional server and data storage capabilities
  • Configure the EHR system to have access to telehealth capabilities

The Institute was just one of many healthcare facillties that have invested in telehealth. The Center for Connected Care at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., is investing $1 million to expand partnership with the Mayo Clinic practice, according to an earlier Healthcare IT News article.

The system includes real-time video telemedicine,  secure-portal messaging, e-consults and remote patient monitoring.
