Texas theater to be converted to health facility

Pecos County Memorial Hospital expanding into movie theater

Pecos County Memorial Hospital in Stockton, Texas, is expanding into a nearby movie theater, according to an article on the Fort Stockton Pioneer website.

The Apache Theatre location is 31,000 square feet, having housed a bowling alley, skating rink and two-screen movie theater. The building was purchased for about $8 a square foot.

By comparison, a “move-in ready” building of the same size elsewhere in town would be priced at about $100 per square foot. The discount is mainly due to the poor overall condition of the exterior.

The plan is to spend about $25-$30 per square foot for the renovation.

“For a total of $50 per square foot or less, we’re going to have a state-of-the-art facility,” hospital CEO Jim Horton said in the article. “That was such an ugly eye-sore for our city, and we’re going to turn it into something nice. We’re going to turn it into something beautiful that the whole town can be proud of.”

The new facilities will include a dental office, home health and hospice, a sleep lab and mental health services.
