The Queen’s Health Systems has acquired O‘ahu-based Kahi Mohala from California-based Sutter Health Pacific, connecting the behavioral health hospital with a broader continuum of local care.
As Hawai‘i’s only free-standing, nonprofit psychiatric hospital, Kahi Mohala serves an important role in the community. Likewise, Queen’s operates the state’s two busiest emergency departments and cares for the greatest number of patients with behavioral health conditions.
With this acquisition, Queen’s can ensure that access to comprehensive behavioral health services will continue for the benefit of their community. In the next few months, Queen’s will continue working on the seamless transition of services for patients and their families, and it will support employees throughout the transition process. As part of the purchase agreement, Queen’s hired many Kahi Mohala staff members to operate child and adolescent mental health services, care that Queen’s will continue to prioritize. Queen’s has encouraged all other Kahi Mohala employees to apply for the many opportunities available at its various locations.
