These High-Touch Surfaces Are Often Missed By Healthcare Facilities Cleaners

Healthcare workers are more likely to spread infection after touching these non-disinfected surfaces


Disinfection of high-touch surfaces are part of effective infection prevention efforts in healthcare facilities, according to an article on the Infection Control Today website.

If theses surfaces are missed by cleaners,  healthcare workers are more likely to spread infection after touching them. However, there are a number of  High-touch surfaces that can be overlooked, including:

  • Break room appliances 
  • Clipboards and paper charts
  • Pneumatic tube systems
  • Medication dispensers 
  • Smartphones

According to an earlier Infection Control Today articlea study in the American Journal of Infection Control found that while metal surfaces should be easier to clean than other surfaces, this knowledge may have contributed to a lack of cleaning efficiency.
