The government will invest about $199 million in the facilities

The Jamaican government plans to invest about $199 million in two new 36-bed field hospitals for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, according to an article on the Loop Jamaica website.

The medical facilities are to be constructed at the Falmouth Public General Hospital in Trelawny and at St Joseph's Hospital and Medical Centre in Kingston.

The health minister also indicated that the government is finalizing plans for a mobile hospital from Canada, which will be placed somewhere in the central region of the country.

He said the new facilities will add 150 beds to the current 350 COVID beds.

According to statistics from the Worldometer website on Sept. 30, Jamaica has had 6,408 COVID cases and 101 deaths.
