Tyco Working with Nest Labs on connected home solutions

Tyco (NYSE: TYC) has announced that it is working with Nest Labs to develop new, useful integrations between Nest products and Tyco’s expanding smart home product portfolio.  Tyco’s participation in the Works with Nest program reflects the company’s commitment to expanding its technology expertise and leadership in the home automation market, where it already provides security products and interactive services in more than five million homes worldwide.

“Tyco is extremely pleased to be working with Nest to provide meaningful connected products for the home that deliver an intuitive and seamless customer experience, a core value which our two companies share,” said Mike Ryan, President of Tyco’s Security Products business unit. “With multiple projects under development within our portfolio, we’re excited about the technological capabilities of Nest Weave as a solution for many of today’s common issues of connecting disparate devices in the home.”

Developed by Nest and previously used in only Nest products, Nest Weave is a communication protocol that lets devices talk directly to each other and to Nest products in the home. Nest Weave enables devices to securely and reliably communicate with one another over networks in the home, including Wi-Fi and Thread, a wireless communications protocol that employs a secure, self-healing mesh network. Nest Weave is designed to address traditional problems with connected devices in the home, including latency, range, security and power constraints.
